One Day

4 Aug

I finished reading ‘One Day’ by David Nicholls last night, and I have to say this could possibly be the best book I’ve ever read. I’ve never wanted to be a character, or characters! from a book more than I did while reading this. Both Emma and Dexter we’re so  intriguing, and complex, and funny too, that I wanted to feel what they were feeling and experience and see everything they were. I was so wrapped up in the book. I highly recommend it.

I really liked these 2 quotes, one from the beginning and one from the end, from Emma, on her perspective on life.

“The trick of it, she told herseld, is to be courageous and bold and make a difference. Not change the world exactly, just the bit around you. Go out there with your double-first, you passion and your new Smith Corona electric typewriter and work hard at.. something. Change lives through art maybe .Write beautifully. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Exerperience new things. Love and be loved it at all possible. Eat sensibly. Stuff like that.”

“‘Live each day as if its you last’, that was the conventional advice, but really, who had the energy for that? What if it rained or you felt a bit glandy? It just wasn’t practical. Better by far to be simply try and be good and courageous and bold and to make a difference. Go out there with your passion and your electric typewriter and work hard at.. something. Change lives through art maybe. Cherish your friends, stay true to your principles, live passionately and fully and well. Experience new things. Love and loved, if you ever get the chance.”
