The best words to live by

16 Feb

When I was little this was actually my favourite song. I have vivid memories of dancing around the kitchen table while this played on the radio. You would think I would have grown up to be a lot more mellow and optimistic that I really am, but every once and a while I am reminded of that saying, and I take a moment to really think about it. It’s something I always struggle with – being worrisome, stressing out over things I can’t control, so I’ve been trying really hard lately to keep it mellow. Keep Calm and Carry On! Especially right now while I’m looking for a job, and the house we’re renting just sold (not even a week between the time my landlord told me it was going up for sale and it’s sold.. a very stressful situation) as I can’t control what happens! I can just keep moving forward, put in the work, and hope for the best!

Don’t worry – Be happy! Dooo do do do do, do do do do do dooooo : )

Confession

4 Jan

Okay, I meant to add this into the New Year’s Resolution post, but I forgot.

I have to confess, I’ve already kind of failed at the “Save more money” resolution.

Monday night when I went to Futureshop with my boyfriend, I caved and bought Season 1 of Gilmore Girls for $9.99 and Season 1 of One Tree Hill for 14.99!

But those are necessities! Seriously.

No, seriously, someone help me out. What are you money-saving tips? What do you tell yourself to make yourself put it back on the shelf? Or do I just boycott stores for the next 12 months, cause help me, I need some willpower!!

And NOW Chapters is telling me via Twitter about a great online/instore sale! AHHHHHHHHHHH

New Year’s Resoultions

3 Jan

A New Year’s resolution is a commitment that a person makes to one or more lasting personal goals, projects, or the reforming of a habit. This goal must be reached by the next New Year. Keep in mind that this is a goal, not a wish and should be something that you as a person could strive for.

So it’s a few days late, but here are my New Year’s Resolutions.

1. Save more money

2. Don’t sweat the small stuff

Sounds easy enough right, but trust me, I’m a huge shopaholic AND a stressball, so it will be challenging.

My contract is up at work the beginning on February and I’m not sure how easy it’s going to be to find another job afterwards. I don’t want to settle for something that doesn’t pay well, and that’s all there seems to be in this town. So I might just waitress for a while until something comes up. The sad thing is I’ll definitely make more money as a waitress than if I were to accept a receptionist position somewhere for $13/hr. But because of this uncertainty in the job market, I decided I should probably be putting a lot more money into savings than I am right now. The house we are renting is going up for sale in the spring, and if we have to move, I know we won’t find something as nice as we’re in for as cheap as we pay right now. Also, I want a new vehicle in the spring so I’ll need to start saving up for that. As part of this new year’s resolution, I am now banning myself from all my fave online shopping sites – Forever21, Esty, Ebay. THAT will be hard! haha

The second resolution is because I can be such a wound-up bitch about some stuff, and it’s just not healthy! As part of this resolution I’m going to try to stop nagging my boyfriend as much (I haven’t told him this part, of course) about stuff like the dishes, the laundry, the bills. etc. I will most definitely not become a pushover, but, if the laundry doesn’t get put away right away, it’s not going to hurt anyone right? Until I trip over the basket on the way to the bathroom in the middle of the night, THEN there will be hell to pay! I’ve just gotten really sick of getting upset over things like the living room not being tidy enough, or getting upset cause our friends spent the night but then didn’t leave until 3pm and I had stuff to do. So I’m going to try to be a little more relaxed, a little more zen. I’ll probably have to medidate and do yoga 10 times a day at first to achieve this, but I’ll try.

It won’t be hard, but these are some changes I think we’ll make me a better person in the end!

Do you have any resolutions?
