Unemployment here I come!

3 Feb

Today is the last day of my 1 year internship, so on Monday I will be officially unemployed! Everyone kept asking me if my contract would get renewed and I would just stay with this non-profit org, but my internship was through a gov’t program and you can only ever be part of the program once, sooo the org will be getting someone new, and I get a lot of free time!

And I am not good at free time! I’m trying not to be too worried about money just yet, as I can apply for employment insurance, and I’ve applied to a couple really good positions, but the mining company and the town I applied for are notoriously slow with their hiring process. So for the next few weeks while I’m sitting by the phone, I’ll have to keep myself occupied! I promise to not go to loopy on you guys, and keep my posts from being super depressing! Promise me you’ll post some funny youtube videos in the comment section to keep me entertained?

The good thing is I will be able to get back into some old hobbies I didn’t have much time for before! I used to scrapbook a lot, but that can become really time consuming and all of a sudden 5 hours have passed and the living room is covered floor to wall with glitter and scraps of paper! So I’m looking forward to having more time to do that, and I’ll be able to hit in the gym at a quiet time, so I expect to be pretty jacked in a month. hahaha! I’ll be able to check out lots of new blogs as well, and I would like to try and post more on here myself. Also, thankfully so many people got me books for my birthday and Christmas, so I’ll be able to fly through my reading list, and maybe catch up on some shows I’ve been meaning to watch – I’m more into watching series right now instead of movies – Empire Boardwalk, Shameless, The Finder, etc! BUT, I’ll also be watching all the Oscar nominated movies for best picture too, so I guess I’ll have enough stuff to do to keep my occupied for 2 weeks…. hopefully I’ll have a new job by then!

EEKK!! Wish me luck!

Shiver – Maggie Stiefvater

17 Jan

New book obession alert!!

I don’t do anything mildly do I? haha

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater is the first book in a trilogy (Shiver, Linger, Forever) about werewolves and love. I’m about half way through  the first one, and I’m hooked. This book is similar to Twilight as it’s about a teenage girl who is in love with a teenage boy who is also a “mythological” creature, but that’s where the similarities stop. This book is so well written! So far I’ve only read “incredulous” once (did Stephanie Meyer ruin that word for anyone else?) and I’ve legitimately laughed out loud on more than one occasion. The main female character is smart, indepedent, and strong willied (like Katniss Everdeen!) and the male lead is definitely swoon worthy. He’s got just enough angst and sensitivity in him to be believable, as he is a teenage boy,  and not all waaah-waaah cry baby. I’ve just gotten to the big climax of the story and I’m so excited to see what happens next. It’s not one of those books you should read before bed because you just keep reading and reading and then you’re too excited to sleep!

My boyfriend actually bought me the box set for my birthday last month, and let me tell you he is getting major brownie points for picking out such a winner. He said he wandered around the book store and noticed this one based on the cover, and then read the back, saw “Werewolves” and was like “Ya, she’ll like this” haha. And he was right on the money!

Check out the official micro-site for the books here and see what it’s all about!

Plus, you gotta love someone who posts this on their website: “Here you’ll find—oh, you know what, let’s cut to the chase. I’m Maggie Stiefvater and I write books about werewolves and kissing.” She does write reeeaaally good kissing sequences. Woooh! If the main characters ever bang, I’LL need a cigarette!

FAULT magazine preview

6 Dec

Are you a Jackson Rathbone fan? How can you NOT be, silly question.

If you want to see more delicious pictures like the one above (or maybe an interview excerpt if we’re lucky!) then tell FAULT magazine so!

@FAULTMagazine Drop us a comment or tell us through FB/Twitter if u like the @JacksonRathbone preview. If enough people do, we’ll do another one 2moro

FAULT is actually a really cool British quarterly publication, that of course I don’t ever have access too up here in the armpit of Northern Ontario, but I enjoy it online!

FAULT Magazine Issue 5 - Special Edition Rupert Grint coverYUUMMMMMM

The photography is just really raw and beautiful. I really like the interviews too as they aren’t asking just material, boring questions like “what is your skin care routine?!” Like, OMG, who cares Glamour!

Check it out! Like them on Facebook and you could win a pretty nifty watch.

You’re welcome.

Kate Middleton Rules the World

5 Dec

Or at least that’s what the premise is behind this new Twitter and Tumblr accounts I started following this morning!

You know I love a good laugh, and I love how clever some people can be  – Fuck Yeah Ryan Gosling, Feminist Ryan Gosling, and now Kate Middleton for the Win! I wish I was this clever and knew how to work photoshop.

Thank you, Ann Clark, for a great laugh this morning! Looking forward to many more. I want to make these all my computer wallpapaer – what an honour 😉

Apparently the guards didn't get the memo...(Thanks Joshua!)
